Great Western celebrates 150 years of history

Great Western Progress Association is planning a major celebration this weekend. The celebration, to take place on Sunday November 29 is for the township of Great Western's 150th birthday and the association is looking to adopt a colonial theme.
Members of the public are invited to dress in period costume or at least have a piece of clothing from days gone by, to join in the celebrations.
As part of the celebrations, there willbe a dedication at the Memorial Park of a plaque for Eliza Lipson Allan, who was the first white woman to settle in the area and is the subject of a book written by Ararat author, Rhonda Poholke.
The family fun day will take in the launch of the Great Western heritage trail, with plaques to be ereceted at each of the heritage sites in the township. Ther heritage trail will be officially launched on the day.
